He's now the Associate Athletics Director and Associate Head Coach of Football Operations/Development. A shiny, gold star to you if you can tell me what that means.

Let's see here...

A traditional tenure track goes like this:
Assistant → Associate → Full-on Robo-chubby

Sean went from part-time Assistant Coach to…
Director of Football Operations (entry into administration) to…
Assistant Athletics Director of Football Ops. (same job – elevated title for higher pay grade) to…
Associate Athletics Director and Director of Football Ops. (domain covers more than just football) to…
Associate Ath. Director and Associate Head Coach of Football Ops. / Development.

This last position means this to me:
1.) ‘Coach’ implies some involvement with the players
2.) ‘Development’ means he will oversee the fund raising efforts of the football team to some degree.

That’s my take on the bureaucracy. If I’m right, I will expect to be assassinated by a ‘cameraman’ on the grassy knoll at the northeast corner of Bill Snyder Family Stadium at the spring game.

As an afterthought...

Sean may just be our next AD, considering the added responsibilities this promotion implies.

I'll be completely honest...unacceptable.

Sean Snyder should never be the AD. That level of nepotism shouldn’t be allowed.

I know TB and i both hope for Dr. Sheahon Zenger. He’d be an excellent choice. And he has experience. Kirby Hocutt would be a decent choice as well.

This is not Bill Snyder University. This is Kansas State University. I’m not saying that he acts that way, but I think anyone that supports a move like this (not saying you do) should remember that.

I’m sorry, I’m not lashing out at you, but if that were to happen, I’d blow a gasket.

Not to be nitpicky

…but is there really THAT much difference between Sean Snyder and the guys you listed, other than a genetic relation?

Zenger is a Snyder disciple – he has often been quoted as learning how to run an athletic department directly from Snyder’s work at K-State. Kirby Hocutt is a former player and obviously was influenced greatly by Snyder’s management style. Same with Laird Veatch.

Yes, Snyder may not be their last name, but if any of them is the next AD, Snyder’s influence will still linger in this university long after he is gone the second time. In that sense, I think it well and truly is Bill Snyder University, or at least the Bill Snyder Athletic Department. And given how successful he has been and how much good he has done for this school, is that necessarily such a bad thing?

Two of them have been actual AD's...

Sean hasn’t.

I will never say one bad thing about Bill Snyder. I truly think the world of him and what he’s done for Kansas State. But the University is bigger than he is, and some people forget that.

He was well compensated during his time here, and his family (children and grandchildren) will most likely never want for money because of what he’ll be able to give them. His name is on the stadium. I know for a fact that before he came back, there were plans to erect a statue in his honor out in front of the new athletic facility they are building for Wildcat Victory. He’ll forever be remembered fondly here.

However, that doesn’t mean he, or his children, get free reign. It is not his athletic department. I think Frank Martin would take offense to that. Don’t you?

Bill Snyder was a catalyst to a renovation of this university and its culture. I will admit that. But he’s not the sole reason. Kansas State is a special place in it’s own right, and it has a rich history and tradition that stands on its own. So I will also take offense to the notion that this is his University.

We owe him a debt of gratitude, but we do not owe him Kansas State. So, on this, we will respectuflly disagree. This is all theoretical, so I’m not really “upset” or “angry”, but I do take offense to people who think we owe him everything, becasue to me that says Kansas State is nothing without Bill Snyder, and that is ABSOLUTELY untrue.

I don't really disagree with you

Just playing devil’s advocate. I would view Sean as Uncle Bob Part 2, myself. We need some fresh thinking, i.e. people who have been outside Manhattan for a while.

Think Kirby Hocutt might know something about marketing and promotions, after competing with how many pro teams and other schools in that state for fans?

I just wanted to point that not all nepotism is familial (even though that is the strictest definition of the term, of course).

I will admit...

It would be disappointing. I have not been pleased with how things have been handled administratively lately in the AD. However, I would not be surprised if it were to happen. Looking at how the ducks are lining up, it makes one say “Hmmmm………….duck pate.”

Jeez, MadCat

The grassy knoll at Bill’s House is on the northwest corner of the stadium. You were going to be looking the wrong way when the Zapruder film hit frame 314.

Carl Peterson...

… yes, i’m kidding.

And nice reference to the Zapruder film btw. Interesting side note, i spent new years in Dallas and stopped by the grassy knoll… felt kinda creepy.

I went to Dealey Plaza last year

And agree that it’s pretty creepy. It’s weird to stand under the book depository, then walk down to the grassy knoll and look out to the “X” on the street (which is misplaced, according to the people that were there that day).
