Meaningless "SportsCenter" Statistic: K-State's 'Night Game' Record Under Ron Prince

If you're anything like me, you watch a lot of ESPN, and if you do, you've undoubtedly noticed that they like to throw completely meaningless statistics out there for public consumption in the hopes that some sort of trend can be identified:

"That's right Stu.  Since 1968, the New York Yankees are 275-34 in weeks following a drop in the Dow Jones Index.  Knowing this, we can expect to see a strong surge this week in their series against the Devil Rays."

Okay, I made that up.  But the point still stands; they like to find a meaningless statistic and try to make more out of it than there really is.

So, in that same vein, I decided to do my own investigation and give you a meaningless statistic to help you in your prediciton for tomorrow's game against Louisville...

  • K-State is 8-5 in all games that started after 6 PM.
  • K-State is 3-2 in televised games begun after 6 PM.
  • K-State is 1-1 in games that are shown on ESPN after 6 PM.

See, statistics are meaningless.  They don't show a trend at all.  I could flip a coin and get the same results.

What?  K-State is 0-4 in all road games that started after 6 PM?

Yikes.  We can only hope that's a streak that's broken tomorrow.  I think it will be.

PJ's Prediction: KSU 34 - Louisville 21

P.S. - TB, we're all glad that you're still alive and going to class.

Did You Know?

Since the inception of the modern day helmet, and being a weekend following a hurricane, and being the week before all of the sitcoms’ seasons start, and there hasn’t been a Cinncinati Bengals conviction in over four weeks, and a team not named Boston or New York is in first place, and being a night game during the week, and following a week where Baylor actually looked good, and….wait what was I talking about?

Oh yeah, K-State is 0-0.

Let’s change that to a winning trend tonight!

Man do I hate Longhorn fans, well except for the ones that actually went there.

The only trend that I'll ever subscribe to...

Is the fact that K-State is absolutely horribile in games that start before 11 AM. It’s literally certain doom.

Also, KSU is 0-1 against Louisville in games that started before noon. There’s an FYI for everyone.

This is not an occult science. This is not one of those crazy systems of divination and astrology. That stuff's hooey, and you've got to have a screw loose to go in for that sort of thing. Our beliefs are fairly commonplace and simple to understand. Humankind is simply materialized color operating on the 49th vibration. You would make that conclusion walking down the street or going to the store.

I HATE morning games. They suck for the players and they suck for the fans and they should be relegated to an unhappy historical footnote.

That's why NFL games

don’t start until 1 PM Central Time.

Another statistic...

K-State is 0-1 versus Louisville since I developed a distaste for Brussels sprouts AND Al Gore invented the Internet. Spuriously, we have no chance.

Well that Louisville team

was ranked 8th at the time. Quite a different team now…wait, when did you have a taste for brussel sprouts?

Good question...

I never really liked Brussels sprouts in the first place (as far as I know) so including the Al Gore criterion put a boundary on that time span.

My next statistic is: Since the construction of the pyramids of Giza, K-State is 0-1 against teams from cities that begin with ‘Louis’ and end in ‘Ville’ and have Cardinals for a mascot.

I really wish...

…you guys would narrow things down a little bit. So broad.

We'll carry the banner high!
