ESPN's Early Season Big 12 Review
I have to seriously question the basketball acumen of someone who labels an 8-3 team that was picked to finish 8th in the Big 12 the conference's biggest disappointment thus far.
Really, Dana? I realize there aren't a whole lot of teams to choose from, given that Nebraska, Texas Tech, Iowa State and Colorado were the only teams picked to finish behind us and they have been as putrid as planned, but c'mon. We lost one NBA lottery pick and one guy who was taken in the second round, have blown out the crappy teams we were supposed to blow out, and have lot by a combined nine points in three games against major conference foes.
What a disappointment. Thank God we weren't picked to finish oh, say, tied for third, and were currently oh, say, 8-3 with, oh, say, one of those losses coming to Massachusetts and a blowout loss to an Arizona team that Texas A&M beat. It really is a shame we've been more disappointing than that.
If we were having a contest for most disappointing major sports media outlet, ESPN would win going away.

Biggest disappointment for ESPN...
because we don’t have a sexier schedule. That’s okay, Fox Sports Network is not quite as picky.
Aggressity is the mother of suspension.

This is what happens...
when a so-called “journalist” just looks at the Big XII standings on espn.com and then at each team’s schedule to do this so-called “review”. A little research and actually watching some game film goes a long way. C’mon, Dana, just do a little research and save us all the trouble. Merry Christmas indeed….

Dana O'Neill
Sucks. K-state has been surprising in how well they’ve played so far in my opinion, and will likely give my jayhawks fits when we come to Bramlage, something I was sure wasn’t going to be the case before the season started.

I actually think Dana O'Neill is one of their best...
but when I first read this I thought she was way off base, because I think KSU has been as good or better than I expected. And while some may disagree, KU hasn’t really disappointed me either because I’d labeled the Syracuse and Arizona games as losses long ago.
My vote would probably go to Oklahoma State – and though they haven’t been awful, they returned a lot of have been blown out in their three biggest games – but they do have decent wins over Siena and Rhode Island.
And that’s why I think she went with KSU. My guess is she hasn’t seen you guys play any more than once and chose you simply because of your three losses only one has a realistic tournament chance and you don’t have a notable win to date.

From the perspective of reasonable KU fans...
…I don’t think KU has been a disappointment, either. They lost everybody and are relying on freshmen. Not a recipe for success in the short term. I used them simply to illustrate that, as compared to preseason expectations, they have been far more disappointing than K-State. We can quibble about whether it was reasonable to expect KU to tie for third, but because they were I have to use that as the metric.
If we’re going to use preseason expectations versus actual results — which seems to me the only logical way to measure disappointments and surprises — then surely K-State is not the most disappointing team in the conference. I’m just trying to figure out where O’Neill is coming from.
We'll carry the banner high!
