Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

"My biggest problem with the black coaches is they're not getting jobs and they're getting [expletive] jobs when they are hired," Barkley said. "They're not getting good jobs. They're not getting jobs where they can be successful. That's why I wanted Turner to get the Auburn job. He could win consistently at Auburn. You can't win consistently at New Mexico. You can't win consistently at Kansas State. He could have won at Auburn."

Just another reason

to hate Charles Barkley.

Man do I hate Longhorn fans, well except for the ones that actually went there.

Not much to add here. Not surprising that Barkley’s brain couldn’t keep up with his mouth.

With all the

problems he’s had in his personal life, i.e. gambling away more money than I will ever see, he shouldn’t be voicing his opinion on something that he has nothing to do with.

Thank god I don’t watch the NBA because I’d rather watch a desperate housewives marathon than a halftime show with Charles on TNT.

God bless Charles Barkley...

Proof that fat and stupid people can get rich legitmately.

There’s hope for me yet.

A great coach

A great coach will win anywhere… regardless of his race.

You guys really don't like Charles Barkley?

I’ve always known that some people didn’t, but never actually found one. Interesting.

Not when he makes uninformed statements about college football

And I never watch the NBA unless I go to a game in person, so pretty much all I know about Barkley is that he shoots his mouth off a lot.

If he had stuck to the criticism of Auburn in the article, we wouldn’t have bothered posting/discussing it here. But he had to go and make a stupid comment that black coaches are always given “shit jobs” where they never had a chance to succeed. Ron Prince had every chance to succeed at K-State, and he failed miserably. Not because he’s black. Because he’s a bad coach. He would have been a bad coach anywhere. Barkley is incapable of making such a fine (well, not really that fine) distinction.

I have no probelm with Charles Barkley...

However, I just find his musings on any topic as insightful as listening to Ben Affleck, Tim Robbins, or any assorted country music star talk about politics.

He’s a constant quote machine that you can go to when you need to fan the flames. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about minority coaches, dog fighting, terrorism, gay marriage, or whether or not Todd Reesing looks like he wandered away from The Shire; Charles Barkley will keep it real and tell you what he’s thinking…even if he’s really not thinking anything to begin with.

To respond to both...

I’d agree that he’s likely not up to date on college football and he’s usually too quick to pull the race card. But I always love to hear from a guy that tells it like he really thinks it, rather than with some calculated agenda. And I do think he has a point.

I know you all will disagree, but to an extent I really don’t think Ron Prince could win consistently at K-State. I’m not sure anyone can with the current recruiting rules in place. And more than that, only one man in history has proven he could do it, so it’s a tough sell to think that someone with a measly 3 years of experience as an OC and none as a HC was going to be able to compete in the Big XII, especially at a place with plenty of its disadvantages. I don’t think Charles was saying that he couldn’t win there consistently because he was black, but rather that no one other than Snyder can. And until proven otheriwse, I think that point is valid.

He wasn't referring to Ron when he said you can't win consistantly at K-State

He was basically saying that black coaches are thrown into jobs they won’t win at. The problem I have with that statement is that he’s basically (probably unintentional too) dogging K-State. Why wouldn’t Us K-Stater’s take offense to that? Synder did win at K-State – consistently. Who’s to say that Ron Prince couldn’t have continued to win like Synder did? Well he was a bad coach, and you can’t win with a bad coach.

Another problem I have is that all he seems to do is bitch. Black coaches aren’t getting good jobs. Boo-hoo – it’s the luck of the draw when good jobs come available. It doesn’t happen very often Charles. Do you think a school like USC or Ohio State is just going to let go Pete Carrol and Jim Tressel because they’re are not black?

Stuff like this takes time. Eventually there will be a good mix of races in good head coaching positions – the way it should be.
