Open Game Thread: K-State vs. Oakland
Oakland, Mich. Golden Grizzlies @ Kansas St. Wildcats
Don't take this Oakland team lightly, as they have already defeated Oregon on the season. A win here sets us up for the Las Vegas Invitational.
Go Cats!

Defense looks good early...
I like the intensity of our front court pressure.

Anyone else around?
Probably won’t post too much if I’m by myself. Not that I don’t enjoy spending time with myself, I’m actually pretty cool to hang out with…so says me.

I'll be here occasionally
Not a great setup here in KC, though. TV is downstairs, computer is upstairs.
If you haven’t seen this team yet, you’re going to love the defense. Yes, I understand this is Oakland. But they bring a lot of pressure and make life hard on the opposition. Nice shooting by Pullen in the earlygoing, too.

Great pass by Jake on that breakaway
Man, this team is fun.
Dominique Sutton is going to be fun to watch on the defensive end this year. He reminds me of Akeem Wright.

Sutton could eventually be...
a cross of Wright and David Hoskins….I just got chills thinking of that.

Yeah, exactly
He’s not a complete liability on the offensive end like Wright was.
I miss Hoskins. He was a fun guy to have on your side.

Lethargic right now
I wonder if our phrenetic pace leaves us prone to these let-down phases of the game. We’ve missed a couple defensive assignments lately and have gone a little cold at the offensive end. Could use a nice little run before halftime to get back on track.
How improved is Luis Colon this year? He’s actually a serviceable big guy right now.

I'm still staying reserved on Lou.
I do agree he’s improved, and he looks to be in much better shape, but I still see the same slow feet and uncoordinated moves that we’ve seen the last couple of years. I think he will eventually lose his spot to Samuels, but he still allows us that 3rd big guy that can chew up minutes for us.

Oh, he's never going to be...
…anything more than minutes and fouls with a few rebounds and the occasional field goal thrown in. But I don’t completely cringe when I see him in the game now.

Exactly...
From what I’ve been reading on GPC, you’d think people were expecting him to put up 15 and 8 every night.

I think we lead the league in...
…profanity caught on camera. I caught a “Fuck that, man” from DK after that last foul call, and I heard Frank drop a “Goddammit _” on one of the big guys after a missed rotation on defense.
Not a bad first half. Not great, but not bad. Would like to see a big run at the beginning of the second half to put things away.

Halftime
Time for me to score some brownie points and help the wife a little bit.
From the way Frank looked after Clemente took that last shot, I’m guessing it will be a good thing the camera isn’t following them into the locker room.

Colon's in double figures...
…for the first time in his career. Cats lead 46-32 at the under-16 media.

Not bad
Probably not going to do much better against a team like Oakland with Thanksgiving Break looming.

At least there's no Ed Hightower...
We need to find out who we can pay to leave him in Hawaii when the Maui Classic is over.

I saw him in San Antonio last April
Really, really wanted to ask him why in the hell he called that T on Beasley in the Tech game last year. But I didn’t.
That white ref with the crew cut is doing his best Hightower imitation, especially on that last blocking call on Lu.

Oakland head coach Greg Kampe:
"Jacob) Pullen shot the ball very well and should thank me because we wanted to force him to shoot it. He should send me a Christmas card. "
That’s funny.

Hopefully they exchanged addresses after the game...
so Pullen can put him on his list. Wonder if he also attaches a letter with his Christmas cards, you know, just letting everyone know how the past year has been.
