Big Implications for this game.

Mainly for Ku, but it should make an easy path for bowl eligibility.

Now if KU looses this game, they might be in some serious trouble. They have NU, UT, and MU left on the schedule. I figure at best they will end up 7-5. (which is exactly what I said before the season started – 4 conference wins maximum).

Remember if they loose this game, there’s a good chance that both of us could end up 6-6. Now who’s the bowl committee going to choose if there could only be one taken?

It makes me ill...

…to think about what could happen if we both end up 6-6.

Traditionally we'd probably get the nod.

But who knows after the fluke that was last season. Depends if the bowl committee is still on that bandwagon, but we all know how that can get a little tiring after a while…..

If we win...

…you would think they’d take us. But we saw how much that mattered to the Orange Bowl Committee last year.

Got to hate it when fluke teams beat you 52-21… :D

Technically, the “fluke” team beat KSU, 30-24.

It does kill me when...

…we lose 52-21 to a team that’s probably going 7-5…at best. Shows you how far this team has fallen under Prince.

Well, it’s one of the many indicators.

I think...

the fall of K-State is amplified by the rise of the Big12 in general…it’s just become an extremely tough conference.

Generally speaking...

I hate FSN.

Before the game, they were playing highlights and previews form last week.

So, based on what I saw this morning, we can expect KU to hang tough with Tech per Joel Klatt.

I’m waiting in great anticipation for that.

Our AD has been in the black for years...

At this point, with a $70 million fundraising project going on, we can’t afford to lose 25-30% of our season ticket holders. The loss in renewals and donations may be more than what it costs to buy him out and hire a new coach.

The money is there. We have enough big pocket guys that dislike Prince enough that they’d pay for a guy like Patterson.

God, I want this regime over with.

Darkhorse candidate

Dan McCarney. Think about it. He knows how to win in the B12 with less. Has a defensive and Iowa/Snyder background. Has been in FLA for last 2 years building ties (recruiting) while coaching at 2 great programs. Would bring Snyder back into the fold. Likely not going to be a bidding war for his services. Won’t bolt for greener pastures, would likely retire at KSU if successful.

Kinda like a Huggins-lite project, minus the baggage.

McCarney is interesting, but the problem is with how ISU crumbled at the end.

I never really looked at their situation in depth, but he’s probably worth an interview if we can’t get Gary.

Ugh...

My wife is worried that I might start throwing things.

If we were a good team losing like this…then I would be pissed.

I’m just frustrated with the coaching situation right now.

Patterson's not leaving TCU.

I don’t like Prince either. However, our AD hasn’t been making the most brilliant choices lately. I’m just saying… don’t be disappointed when we don’t get ANY of the people we want. Especially this head coaches from established programs. It’s ridiculous to think they’d want to come coach our train-wrecked program.

Patterson may want to come home...

We can pay the money. That’s not an issue.

There are a lot of mid major guys that would want a shot, any shot, at a BCS program.

I just remember

when Snyder retired, everyone had all these big ideas about who we’d hire. It didn’t even seem like any of those people were interested in K-State. Why would they be now?

I’m just concerned that we are going to hire another Prince and I can’t stand the thought of it.

No, that's not necessarily true...

We offered Jim Leavitt, he said no, and then we went after Prince.

There was interest in the KSU job. We hired Prince based on a token interview we gave to placate the BCA requirements (I’m NOT making this a racial thing; it’s why he got the inerview.), and he wowed Weefer. After that, it was all over. The decision was made.

There was no coaching search. We hired Prince after the obvious choice turned us down for the program he built from nothing.

Who?

Yes, I know how Wefald can get blinded by an excellent speaker.

Who was interested? And how do you know? Are they still interested?

Well, we all know that...

Venables was interested. He wouldn’t have been my choice, but he woud have been a better candidate than Prince.

Chuck Long was, but it’s a good thing he went to SDSU…

I had heard Patterson was interested, but he signed his extension right after he found out he wasn’t getting an interview.

Again, mostly scuttlebutt, but there was interest. Chizik went to ISU; I’d like to think we could have appraoched him if he showed even a bit of interest.

Most guys didn’t want to be the guy to follow Snyder, so I get that. However, even average coaches will get plenty of time after this year. Remember back to Asbury; we hated him so much we gave Wooly six years….

The same thing could happen again.

Gary, come home!

Extension

The decision to extend Prince before this year was a colossally awful choice. Krause needs to take a pay cut to pay for that buyout.

by atxcat on Nov 1, 2008 1:52 PM CDT up reply actions

I initially supported it...

But that’s because I assumed improvement would be made.

Huh, stupid me.

That's my thought

Any coach being pursued by a BCS program has to understand that there must be something wrong for the university to be hiring a new coach. At least we wouldn’t be in the midst of a giant recruiting controversy (Colorado) or a cheating scandal (KU all the time)….

No, I'm just pointing out that there is a precedent for firing BCS coaches after three years.

Oh, God, no...

People just say that you don’t fire a coach after only three years.

There is a precedent for that.
