Your Favorite Sunflower Showdown Memories
Taking a cue from Rock Chalk Talk's historical perspective post, it's time we decided which K-State/KU football showdown holds a special place in our hearts. Here are some suggestions below, you can put forth your own suggestions in the comments.
1991: K-State 16, KU 12: Bill Snyder's first win over KU.
1994: K-State 21, KU 13: Snyder's first win in Lawrence causes the goalposts to fall. Yes, you read that right.
2002: K-State 64, KU 0: No real amplification needed. The most lopsided game in the history of the Sunflower Showdown.
2003: K-State 40, KU 6: Special for me because it was the first home win over KU I witnessed. I'll never forget the despondent KU fan sitting on the sidewalk after the game, repeatedly wailing, "Someday, someday we're going to beat K-State! Someday!"

Thanks for posting that video.
I have to say that I’m a little ashamed of the fans back then to do that on an opponent’s field. Besides throwing batteries at opposing fans, this has to be one of the most disrespectful things one can do.
At the risk of sounding like a complete hypocrit, that still was pretty cool…..

I'm shocked it didn't cause a riot

If that happened in Boulder
the casualties could have reached triple digits….

If it had been College Station...
…it might have triggered WWIII.

no one would have seemed to notice….

I Voted Other....
because clearly none of those games would be a favorite of mine and I’m going to vote instead for the 1987 Toilet Bowl Tie…17-17

I was fortunate enough
to be at the 2002 game. I remember it being 43-0 at halftime and telling my buddy I had never seen a team put up 40 points that easily. That was the pinnacle of domination over the Flaw on the Kaw.

I voted 2003...
I remember reading post after post on the KU rivals board about how Whittemore was going to tear Kansas State up, and that this was the year KSU was going down, etc.
I don’t think Brittlemore made it out of the first quarter. Maybe, but he didn’t make it out of the first half, and KSU rolled that game.
What made that game special was the sheer hubris of KU fans thinking that because they had an average quarterback, they would roll on to victory over that particular KSU squad. The ’03 Cats were possibily the best all-around unit that KSU had after the ’98 team, and there was no way KU was even remotely good enough to beat KSU.
Also, before the game, the Jayhawks went out to midfield before the game and jumped up and down on the PowerCat. It was nice to see them get their asses kicked for that.

I have never booed more loudly...
…than when the KU players stomped on the Powercat.
Of course, we tore their goalposts down in 1994. Maybe we deserved that.

And it will be for the next victory. To be honest, I have never felt the need to beat KU any more than I do now. Since I’ve only really been a KSU fan since 1996, I didn’t feel the rivalry. K-State was going to win the football game and KU was going to win the basketball games.
The two units I identified as rivals early on were:
1.) Nebraska
2.) The OU band (esp. since I had to sit next to them in 1996) even though I was a Sooner fan of sorts at the time.

Interesting...
I will say this, I was born in 81’ and my perspective like yours has rarely seen the two teams competitive with eachother…as long as I can remember KU beat KSU in BBall and minus a few years KSU beat KU in football…looks like now with the recent success of KU football and KSU Basketball we’ve got a little bit of a rivalry re-developing.

I voted other. As the 99-00 was my favorite. The club level had just opened and it was my 5th year in school. My friends brother had bet on the cats and it was a very large spread 20+ plus in favor of the cats. If memory serves me well, the Cats weren’t covering so even though the game was a blow out each TD was important to our little group, and we cheering like crazy as well as drinking as any good college kid would in the stadium. I think he won like $5,000 in the end and we all continued the celebration in the ’Ville.

I was there in ’82 when we came out in those awful gray uniforms under the temporary lights and beat them on TBS. I remember Mike Wallace hauling in rainbows and running past the CBs. I also enjoyed the Chad May victory at KU in 94. All the firsts we were achieving were very exciting to someone who suffered through the 70s and 80s.

Awesome
I was hoping we’d get the perspective of someone who had seen the turnaround in its entirety. Thanks for commenting.
