I'm just not sure yet

I’m not convinced that it’s time to toss in the towel on Prince. Yes, our DC and defense are terrible, but if Prince shows a willingness to improve that (i.e., getting a better coordinator), then he’ll have taken steps to fix the problem.

As far as Kiffin goes, eh. While I stated above that I’m not completely done with Prince yet, I think it was a big risk to go outside the “K-State Family” in hiring a new coach. K-State is a unique program, and we should have gone with somebody who has been here, and knows firsthand what it takes to win in Manhattan.

I agree with almost everything you say, but if things go really South...

My Todd Graham in ’09 campaign will begin shortly after we lose the eighth or ninth game.

This is not an occult science. This is not one of those crazy systems of divination and astrology. That stuff's hooey, and you've got to have a screw loose to go in for that sort of thing. Our beliefs are fairly commonplace and simple to understand. Humankind is simply materialized color operating on the 49th vibration. You would make that conclusion walking down the street or going to the store.

I like Graham

I saw a segment they did on CBS College Sports with Graham and I was blown away. The guy’s numbers are pretty astounding. Plus, he comes across as just a regular football coach. No smoke and mirrors, no cliches, but just an honest guy that enjoys the intricacies of the game.

I’m with TB, though. I would hate to switch head coaches after just three years, but Ron needs to choose his next DC wisely. No more looking in the “minors”. Get an established FBS D-line or linebackers coach from a BCS conference.

I Don't think you throw in the towel on Prince yet....

but if there is an opportunity and it is a likely opportunity to get Kiffin, that would be HUGE and then you do make the move to get rid of Prince. The only concern I would have with a young hungry guy like that is how long can he really be expected to stay in the state of Kansas if he turns things around. Just my opinion and BTW enjoy your blog.

Good point

Although I’m not sold on hiring an NFL guy to coach in college. I don’t really have anything against Kiffin personally, and he comes from a helluva coaching lineage, but Bill Callahan was a disaster in Lincoln and I have a feeling Mike Sherman is going to be the same thing in College Station. College football is such a different animal from the NFL that I’m not sure good coaches at one level transfer to another level.

As far as how long he stays, that would definitely be a concern. However, if he were to leave after, say, two or three years because he’d had outstanding success at K-State, I could live with it, for a couple reasons. First, it would mean we had two or three years of outstanding success. Second, say what you will about Bob Huggins, be he elevated our men’s basketball program from a joke to a solid Big 12 program in just one year. One good coach can build a lot of momentum for a program.

That said, I agree it’s premature to be writing Prince’s coaching epitaph here in Manhattan. Thanks for reading.

So you see Kiffin as a pro coach???

I can see that and understand what your saying but I kind of feel like he might be more of a college guy obviously due to his success at USC. So when you say your not sure good coaches at one level translate to another perhaps his success in college as a coordinator doesn’t translate to NFL success but would translate to college head coaching success. Just a thought…

Yeah, it might

My comment wasn’t well-considered from that perspective.

I agree with DJhawk

I think of Kiffin more as a college coach, not only because of his success at USC, but because of his age. Yeah, Callahan was a HUGE mistake at Nebraska, but that was mostly due to his style being such a 180 degree switch from what that program was accustomed. NFL coaches who have spent the majority of their coaching years at that level will probably not have the same type of success at the college level. I think the same as true vice versa. The two worlds are just too different IMO.

here’s to exposing TTech…you guys and CU seem to be the “sexy” picks for pulling an upset.
