"I didn't know we were favored," right guard Gerard Spexarth said. "After this last week, we probably shouldn't be favored."

Austin Meek, Topeka Capital Journal, on Spexarth learning KSU was a six point favorite this weekend in College Station.

Ouch..voice of reality

Right or wrong, someone needs favored, might as well be us (KSU for the unknowing). To say that K-State sucks, which is what I read all the time at other sites, is not correct. Like in the NFL, 0-5 teams might be very bad. My Ravens, at 2-2, do not look, record wise, as a good team. Facts are hidden in just the record. However, in our case (KSU), at 3-2, the record tell about as much.

We beat teams that are VERY BAD, lost to one that was MOSTLY BAD. Was Annihilated by one that was VERY GOOD.

We should win this Saturday. For there are levels of bad and even suckdom. KSU DOES NOT SUCK people. Hate the coach(es) all you want, but never dis your own team. They could be 0-5 like North Texas, without hope. We still have a winning record, barely, but it counts as something.

Yes, we would like to be 5-0, or even 4-1, with competitve loss to only TT. This is not a reality, sad but true. Our defense has much to be desired, but it is still OUR DEFENSE. The players are OUR PLAYERS. Negativity breeds negativity, and will only produce negativity.

I realize these are not the BEST of TIMES for our football program, but WE (KSU) has been much much worse.

I remember going to the 3-3 tie to KU back in the day. That was exciting! This year, the year of the QB of the big 12, is going to be hard, especially with some glaring weaknesses on our team. I have spoken of expectations, and how sad it is when they are not met. In the “Letter to Ron Prince” posted on this site, a list of expectations were given.

Again, disappointment.

While I would never suggest lowering our standards of expectations, one needs to measure them with some degree of composure.

To be a fan, means to be a FAN, not just in the good times. At this site, honesty is given. I like it. I respect the writers for their bluntness, even as much as their creative flair.

The “FLY on the Wall” still kills me, humoristically. Difference is, they are attending games. Many of the venom spewers are not.

Look at UCLA. They beat Tenn., haven’t done much since. We know they have a go coach, but it takes time to build.

Some can do it in 1, others take longer.

KU, how many years? 6, 7? *Are they even there yet??

Prince might not be the answer, and this sacrifical coach thing is truth on many levels.

But keep the faith and keep the dream. Represent. PURPLE is still the only color, everything else is, well, NOT PURPLE!

GO KSU!

I noticed that last week.

Especially in the Focus Group two weeks ago, I noticed a negative tone and didn’t like where most of the conversations were going. It’s not fun being a fan when all you do is predict and analyse all of the negatives all the time. A lot of other sites/newspapers/etc. haven’t even been this negative towards K-State. Many outsiders predicted us having a good shot at upsetting Tech last weekend. But we the fans couldn’t even fathom it.

When the opposing fans have more belief in your team than you, that’s a bad sign. A sign that should never happen.

Go State!

Man do I hate Longhorn fans, well except for the ones that actually went there.

Kaos, thank you for the comments

We all love Kansas State. I do not have anything against Ron Prince the man. I don’t know him, I’ve never met him, and I most likely never will. I’ve mentioned several times (though maybe not on this site) that I agree with a lot of his philosophies on the game in general. However, I question his ability to execute his ‘master plan’, or if he’s capable of finding subordinates capable of assisting him in said execution.

It must be stated, and I think I (or we) will do it next week, that I have not been against Prince from the beginning. However, a certain set of issues has caused me to quickly reposition my stance.

I have nothing against patience. I was more than willing to give Jim Wooldridge four years to clean up Tom Asbury’s mess. However, at a certain point in time, enough is enough. While I’m not 100% comfortable saying that about Prince just yet, I think there is a perfect storm brewing where removal this year would be justified.

As fans, we all have a self-defense mechanism that we employ if things aren’t going well. Some folks walk away, some continue on with the status quo, others become vociferous, and others, like me, resort to sardonic jabs. It’s what we do.

One thing that I will never do is pull punches for the sake of appearences. I believe in supporting the players, and I will do so by continuing to attend games. However, if I’m not pleased with the coaching staff (and I’m currently very displeased), I will be open about it. Very open.

Kaos, again, thanks for reading. Your comments are appreciated. If you’re ever interested, feel free to do a FanPost about these same topics. We’re not about the suppression of differing viewpoints, so please, feel free to join in the discourse.

This is not an occult science. This is not one of those crazy systems of divination and astrology. That stuff's hooey, and you've got to have a screw loose to go in for that sort of thing. Our beliefs are fairly commonplace and simple to understand. Humankind is simply materialized color operating on the 49th vibration. You would make that conclusion walking down the street or going to the store.

You are only a loser when....

Indeed Mystman995, I remember when you (generic for FANS) stayed the whole game regardless of the outcome, just in case one special play happened. In the milk barn we (my family) would discuss that same play all week. (Ok, maybe only MW and F, but still…)

There are several good to great things about this edition of our football team. Special teams, being one.

You know, one win (this weekend) could change the dynamics of this progam. A boost if you will. Right now the FANs are like a puppy that has been kicked around, not the players. They still believe. As long as even one of them believe, so will I.

We did have a shot of the upset. We hung with them for a while. Our defense even stoned them on a 4th down play.

It is not all gloom and doom, some gloom, some doom; but some rays of sunlight still are hitting the playing field on K-State’s side.

If we spent as much time rooting for as we did predicting the next HEAD COACH, maybe we could be something special.

Like you said, easy to be a fan when you win, hard when not. But I will not trade my Colors for anything.

If I were on campus, I’d thank each player for their efforts. Tell them I believe in them. and most importantly, tell them I am proud of them, win or loose. The score is not the only measure of a person.

Thanks,

D.

an outsider's view

as long as you see progress, game by game, I think you can remain optimistic

when you see the same mistakes repeated week after week without any sign of being fixed, that is when you become frustrated as a fan

I think above all, football games must be two things to keep fans coming back: they must be entertaining, and they must be competitive. If you are not entertained and you are getting blown out frequently, there is no reason for Joe Fan to attend the games.

When your team gets to that point, the administraton needs to see the attendance going down as a sign that change is needed.

I don’t know if you are there yet. From my point of view, Prince isn’t the right guy for K-State. Yall should be a lot further along in Year 3. JMHO.

See, the A&M guy gets it!

Thanks, Beergut. I think your sentiments are dead on.

I’m also in agreement that you did a good job summing things up, Beergut.
