4:00 Update
Watched Gameday over breakfast biscuits, burritos, and screwdrivers. Great job of ESPN and Virginia Tech of handling the tributes, in my opinion.
Alternated between Va. Tech's ho-hum defeat of East Carolina and Colorado's dramatic overtime win over Colorado State. I think East Carolina is a pretty decent team, while it looked like VT may have been a little too amped up. It's tough to sustain that emotional level for long.
Colorado is obviously going to be better than last year. Thought Cody Hawkins looked pretty decent (18-32-201-2-1).
Unfortunately couldn't watch the upset of the century thanks to the Big 10 Network. Still enjoyed chest-bump to celebrate Michigan's loss to a IAA (or whatever the hell they're called these days) team at home.
Right now it looks like Mizzou is having some trouble getting untracked in St. Louis, but Illinois isn't putting up a huge fight. Nebraska is also off to a slow start, and Sam Keller hasn't been particularly impressive at 7-14-84-1-1, and he almost threw another INT just as I typed this.
Just 1.5 hours until Okie State-UGA and 2.5 hours until our Cats invade the Plains.
5:30 Update
Illinois is making things awfully interesting all of a sudden in STL, scoring 21 third quarter points to pull within 10 with a quarter to go.
Nebraska is rolling along against Nevada. Marlon Lucky has had a huge day, but Sam Keller has been pretty average.
Time for a quick shower before the Okie State game. My buddy from school down here just called me from Auburn, sounds like he's having a great time.
First half
I'd be lying if I didn't say I was pretty happy to be in a 6-3 game at halftime. We are going toe-to-toe with Auburn right now, and frankly outplaying them in some aspects.
My main disappointment was not scoring a touchdown on that opening drive. If Jordy Nelson would have gone wide on the reception at the five, he might have scored. Can't complain about his performance though, he's looking like the Jordy of 2005.
Auburn's defense has adjusted and it taking away the short crossing routes and daring Freeman to throw deep. That wouldn't be bad if we could run the ball, but we can't right now. I like that Freeman is protecting the ball, but sometimes he drops off to the short receiver a little too fast. Better than forcing it though.
How the hell was that a facemask on Jordy on that pass for a first down? I have never in my life seen an offensive player called for a facemask on a stiff arm. My only other officiating gripe is that AU got a huge break on that 4th and 1 when Roland stuffed Tate, but a bad delay of game call gave AU a second chance. Don't forget though, we've had some calls go our way.
I really like the defensive play so far. We started pressuring Cox a little bit and have really stuffed the rushing game so far. Need to keep that up.
A big play is really what we need to win this game. That, and we need to figure out something on offense to sustain some drives and keep the defense off the field.
C'mon, Cats, we're right in this one.
score on this drive
after the interception.
Auburn's offense isn't good enough to generate a lot of points.

nice play
like that one - clear out - 9:02 third quarter. run the defense off, then gain 8 yards.

field goal
more points. that's all that counts. score when you can.

Thanks Corn
I fucking hate ESPN. Oooh, wow, a no-hitter! Nobody's ever done that before.
yeah
i don't like MLB anyway.
oh, hug the guy, get it over with.
now they're walking to the dug out. maybe the president will call. or the Pope. we'll have to wait for that.

was that a facemask?
in the fourth quarter - 15 yarder? looked like he tackled him by the shoulder pad.

there is a huge amount of time
left in this game.
13-9 - anyone's game.
Auburn can't score more than 20 points unless they're gifted.

KSU
just needs to score more than 21 points.
just get a couple scores, and it's a win. otherwise, prepare to have your blood pressure heightened.

did they just call
that for a late hit, or for a spearing call on K-State?
More f*cking bullshit calls when you go into the SOUTH to play a football game than anywhere else.
What was that call? (I have the audio down to listen to another game, and that damned referee doesn't do his hand signals).
by cornnation @ Bring On The Cats on Sep 1, 2007 9:57 PM CDT reply actions
another personal foul
call.
roughing? What bullshit again!
I hope your defense get pissed off at these guys and starts killing them.
good god.

good defense
especially on the road, against the home crowd, against the refs.
sunsabitches.
i'm learning to hate Auburn.
bastards.

im cheering for the wildcats
i have always hated auburn, plus it makes the big 12 a better place. k state is the 5th or 6th best team in the big 12, and auburn is the 3rd or 4th or 5th in theirs.
come on freeman, hold the ball!

KSU needs
to get a first down.
They're looking a little lost right now on offense.
And maybe your punter could learn to not outkick his coverage.
Auburn Ball. What's the over/under on personal foul calls called on KSU on this drive.
by cornnation @ Bring On The Cats on Sep 1, 2007 10:10 PM CDT reply actions
crap.
k state needs to hold them to a FG here, but after that offside it doesnt look good.
by rockchalktalk on Sep 1, 2007 10:16 PM CDT reply actions
oh yeah,
look a call against KSU after a loss by Auburn.
Shocking, isn't it?

TD- Auburn
nice play, they've moved well on this drive.
KSU has some precious little time, but they do have time to come back and win this game.
But I'm guessing that any big plays they have will be negated by penalties.

pretty damned
exciting picture of that NASCAR track there.

i'm surprised
by how little Freeman has scrambled tonight.
what's up with that?
by cornnation @ Bring On The Cats on Sep 1, 2007 10:24 PM CDT reply actions
Gimpy
I think Freeman dinged up his knee or ankle on that slide in the first half. Why they haven't worked on sliding with him is beyond me, any third-grade baseball player knows how to slide better than that.
In the first half I thought Alesana was playing pretty well. But he's just getting owned by Quentin Groves right now, and the announcers are absolutely right that we needed to line up a running back on that side to help with blocking. We did it once, then stopped.
I'm despondent. I'll give Auburn credit, they won this game fair and square. But dammit, we shot ourselves in the foot so bad. This one hurts.
